HIGHLAND GAMES
BALLATER HIGHLAND GAMES - Thursday 12th August 2010 This event will be held, as always, at Monaltrie Park, Ballater from 12.30-17.30.
These are traditional Highland games which began in 1864 and include dancing and piping competitions, field events, heavy events, the hill race and pipe bands. There is also a fun fair and various stalls. A family day out in the heart of Royal Deeside. Email: info@ballaterhighlandgames.com

BALLATER WALKING FESTIVAL This is held annually in May and attracts hillwalkers of all ages and abilities. Those participating are taken on guided walks in the Eastern Cairngorms. BALLATER BOULES CHALLENGE Held every second Sunday from November to May, Boules (petanque) has grown in its popularity and the group maintains that it is the only UK boules group who play continuously throughout the whole winter period in virtually any weather conditions on a unique terrain.
BALMORAL RUN Set in the grounds of Balmoral Estate this event takes place in April. There are many races but the main one is the 10km run.
VICTORIA WEEK - Saturday 7th to Sunday 15th August 2010 This “week” is actually ten days of activities, including the Ballater Highland Games and is a celebration of the town’s connection to Queen Victoria. According to the Ballater website it is "fun for all the family, local and international, entertaining, interesting, and even thought provoking". It is held during the second week in August.
