'GLENBARDIE' : A listed Victorian holiday home in Ballater
However, the house’s main distinguishing feature is its unusual octagonal tower.
There are three large public rooms on the ground floor, complete with original pitch pine floor boards, intricate plasterwork cornices and ceiling roses. Each has a working fireplace; one is used as a games room and has a pool table. There is a ground floor twin room which has an ensuite shower room.
An attractive curved stairway leads to the four upstairs bedrooms. Two are south facing and have ensuite shower rooms. These bedrooms have good views of Cairn Leuchan and Lower Glen Muick. The other two face the garden and the oak covered slope of Craigendarroch Hill and share a bathroom. However, they both have a wash hand basin in the room.
On the ground floor, a passageway leads to the rear of the house, off which there is a “wet room” and the "servant's" stairs. At the top of these there is the last bedroom which has an ensuite bathroom, in what used to be the servant’s quarters. Further along the landing you will find the entrance to the Tower.
Returning to the ground floor, at the very end of the passage there is substantial farmhouse style kitchen with a laundry room.
The well kept garden at Glenbardie holiday home in Ballater
The garden is large, predominantly wild and full of mature fir, spruce and oak trees some taller than Glenbardie and must have been planted when the house was built in 1906. It is not unheard of for visitors to see a deer in the garden, especially during the winter.
Behind the house there is what used to be a grass tennis court that now makes a perfect place for children to run off some excess energy, for football, croquet or to sit out and barbecue on warmer days.
Glenbardie is perfect for familiy holidays and short breaks

Glenbardie is approximately half a mile (600 metres) from Ballater’s centre along the main Aberdeen to Braemar Road (A96) going west to Braemar. This gives our visitors the benefits of having the amenities of the village on their door step and those of a large garden and few neighbours with a forest/hill walk and a river walk on their doorstep. |
